4 About me

For a long time my father regretted buying my first guitar for my 14th birthday, but years later I could tell he had, in his own way, given me his blessing. After all he was pretty musical and artistic himself, and I found the Classical music he listened to enthralling. When the Beatles and other rock bands came along I was smitten, and when I discovered Blues and Jazz I knew I had to take part.

Since then I’ve had the joy and luck to play some tremendous music with some marvellous people such as Ike Isaac, Mike Nock, Judy Bailey, Jason Morphett, Warwick Alder, Craig Scott, Billy Nuku, Hamish Stuart, Keith Sterling and many others. The musicians I play with today are a sheer delight.

In 1994 I had a short break from playing jazz to indulge in some classical guitar and attained a Licentiate from Trinity College London.

A lot of the time I play solo guitar in a number of different styles: mainly jazz and classical but also rock tunes arranged to suit solo guitar. I play in restaurants, at weddings, parties and other similar functions.

Also I play jazz guitar in combos often with either a bass player or another guitarist. My favourite combo setting is guitar, bass and drums, with a sax or another melody instrument. I’ve worked with many singers as well and sometimes the repertoire can include soul and blues material. The gigs we do range from clubs to restaurants, bars, weddings and functions.

I’ve been teaching guitar at schools and at home for over thirty years. Most of my pupils learn current rock music but also we work on improvising, classical music, jazz, blues and all styles of rock from Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly to Greenday, Red Hot Chilli Peppers or whoever else is HOT on YouTube.

Hi Brigitte, long time no see! I mainly do my exams through Trinity College London and Rock School, both of which students can sit here in Sydney. But also I have a student working on a Contemporary Popular Music exam, which is an AMEB exam
